More like "Kitchener teen burned because he is underage and doesn't know how to operate something that even in the vaping world is considered advanced and not recommended for beginners"
As someone who supports vaping, works at a vape shop and has quit smoking due to switching over I'm not going to let this slip by without explaining why it happened.
There are 2 types of vaporizer devices, regulated and unregulated. A regulated device has a chip inside it that controls how much power goes to the coils that vaporize the liquid, and if anything was to happen such as a short circuit, a reversed battery, the battery being too low or the coil is just not suitable for the device it WILL NOT FIRE. These devices are recommended for beginner because they are basically fool proof.
Now unregulated devices are a whole different species. They are basically a tube of metal containing a battery that is directly connected to your coil. Once you hit the button there is no chip that checks for any errors or short circuits it simply just send power from the battery to the coil. Now these devices are considered advanced because to operate them safely you have to have a pretty good understanding of ohm's law, battery voltage and battery amperage, you also have to know how to make sure that your coil is safe to fire and has no short circuits or any flaws.
Now this kid claims that his device was "regulated" but pictures have been posted of the device that blew up and being a person that works in the vaping industry and have quite a bit of experience with a large variety of vaping devices I can guarantee it is 100% an unregulated device, and in every report that says "vaporizer explodes" It's always an uneducated individual using an unregulated device without having any idea how to operate it safely. It's people like this that give vaping a bad name when in reality, vaping has saved many people's lives. I usually don't go on rants like this but there has been an excess of posts like this and I feel like it is very unfair that vaping is getting such a bad name because a bunch of people think they know what they're doing when in reality they have no idea what they have in their hands, It's like someone discovering a car for the first time and getting into it and thinking the gas pedal is the brake and the brake pedal is the gas and the steering wheel is the indicators and the radio button is the intergalactic warp drive engage button, Like everything else, research before you get into anything.
